THE KINSEY SICKS

By David Ortmann

San Francisco's own dragapella beauty shop quartet, stands alongside The Golden Gate Bridge in both originality and popularity. With five years of entertaining audiences behind them, Winnie (Irwin Keller), Rachel (Ben Schatz), Trixie (Maurice Kelly), and Trampolina (Chris Dilley) continue to shock, delight and seduce their legions of fans. Following the 1997 release of their first CD Dragapella, and sold-out shows at the New Conservatory Theater, the Kinsey Sicks are the hottest ticket in town. Their latest CD Boyz 2 Girlz. is guaranteed to please even the most jaded. Trampolina's "Titanic" (Why Must Celine Go On?) would make Ms. Dion stand up and cheer. Rachel's "Where The Goys Are" is a joyful romp that leaves no Christian or Jewish turn unstoned. Winnie's "Papirossen," sung almost entirely in Yiddish, depicts the group's inherent intelligence and versatility. Trixie's "Gay Sera Sera," a delightful send-up of the Days of Doris, had me wanting to run for my bottles of peroxide and yearning for that more holesome, I mean wholesome, era. With an astounding 19 tracks, Boyz 2 Girlz is on the top of my gift list for the holidays.
