BOYS ON THE SIDE
by Carla J. Zvosec Vegas At Its Best News and Notes from the City that Never Sleeps So what exactly do you get when you take four rather buff guys, dress them in satiny, retro-styled gowns and long, white gloves, give them bouffant-styled wigs, a pair of cat-eye glasses and a stage to perform on? Well if the guys are The Kinsey Sicks, and the stage is the Shimmer Cabaret's at the Las Vegas Hilton, you have one colorful night in store in the Entertainment Capital of the World! Now normally, this would be the place to insert "Only in Vegas" or "Don't worry, whatever happens in Vegas stays in Vegas," But in this instance, it's just not the case. Combining award-winning a cappella singing, cutting satire and outrageous drag, the group's off-Broadway hit Dragapella! has been performing across the county for more than a decade, developing a rather large and loyal following along the way. Four years ago, the guys, or should we say the girls, found a home at the legendary Studio 54 in New York City. The group also has been featured on television ("20/20" and "CBS Early Show with Bryant Gumbel"), won several a cappella awards and has recorded four CDs including Dragapella, Boyz 2 Girlz, Sicks in the City and I Wanna Be a Republican. Campy and bawdy, this show is only here for one night, Sept. 18, but it's sure to be a feast for the eyes, ears and funny bone. Call (702) 732-5755. --Carla J. Zvosec |
